The Goracle Consults His Crystal Ball, Sees 220 Foot Sea Rise In 5-10 Years

At this point, I am starting to believe Gore would have been better than Bush in fighting the War on Terrorism. Why? The dude is so stone cold wackadoodle that he probably would have just dropped some nukes on Afghanistan, Iraq, Lybia, Syria, and Iran, among others. Besides, the nukes would certainly have mitigated the supposed global warming through nuclear winter. Witness the latest incarnation of insanity

Iran refuses the Obamamessiah’s deal

Considering that France has been acting tougher on Iran than we have been, it’s not a big surprise that Iran hasn’t been taking Obama too seriously. Obama’s plan thus far has been to whine to Ahmadinejad and to ask him to stop (pretty please with a cherry on top??). So while Obama seems set on negotiating over and over again, Iran continues to get bolder and more insulting.

They didn’t flat-out refuse Obama’s deal, but they might as well have. Could it be because AhmadinejadSource: Stop the ACLU RSS Feed

The Best Conservative Columnist

I have been reading Hot Air for a long time by now. Especially after Ed Morrissey joined the Malkin-crew, the site became one of, if not the first, my favorite conservative websites.

As such, it has greatly surprised me – in a good way – that Hot Air has become even better in recent months. How? By creating its GreenRoom page, where a carefully selected group of bloggers are allowed to publish posts. One of them is a blogger who goes by the name of Doctor Zero.

Prefab Participation

Whilst walking the dog this rainy evening, I happened upon an illuminated, inflatable lawn ornament of the Halloween variety.

These decorations are an easy, relatively inexpensive way to acknowledge the holiday. They require little or no thought beyond which one to buy and where to buy it. The set-up is easy, so is the clean up and off-season storage.

Easy is good.

The unfortunate trade-off is that most inflatables are hollow caricatures of tradition and a lousySource: Donklephant RSS FeedSource: Donklephant RSS Feed

The world's grain stocks have dropped from four to 2.6 months cover since 2000, despite two bumper harvests in North America. China's inventories are at a 30-year low. Asian rice stocks are near danger level.

Just talking myself through the news of the day. Again.

From Hardball Oct. 16, 2009. Pat Buchanan cites the Willie Horton ad as one of the reasons the "Tea Party people" liked George H.W. Bush and says it hit one of their "themes". The official government unemployment rate is 9.8 percent, the highest in 26 years, but when you factor in all those out-of-work Americans who have given up looking for non-existent jobs, the real unemployment rate in the United States is a staggering 17 percent.
After 10 months, it's clear that Barack Obama's "stimulus" package has failed to create any jobs. But Obama the lapdog Democrats in Congress refuse to change course in their failed employment policies.

rags to riches in fairytales

Observer | In fairytales, as in dreams, things both are and are not what they seem to be. After Freud first lifted the curtain to reveal the unconscious mind seething and roiling with hidden desires and fears, and showed how dreams and stories were full of symbols that told quite a different tale from the one on the surface, we've become used to reading both literature and life in a double way; it feels quite natural now to look for – and find – sexual meanings, for example, in the most Source: subrealism RSS Feed

Time to trim the bench to size. I decided on 7.5 feet. I’d like 8, but the shop just isn’t as large as I’d like

First, do a pass with the circular saw at max depth:

Then finish with a crosscut handsaw. Lubricate the blade with wax and use wedges to keep the kerf open.

The glueup wasn’t perfect, and I got a fair bit of cupping. I planed the bottom flat and installed two out of the three vises, then flipped the bench over.

Somalia, Redux: A More Hands-Off Approach

The two-decade-old conflict in Somalia has entered a new phase, which presents both a challenge and an opportunity for the United States. Throwdown with Charles Murray

In a response to my post this morning, Charles Murray remains unconvinced that changes to our school system could result in dramatic improvements in educational outcomes.
